Fuse requires little in terms of components. The dice are large and work good for when you have to stack them. The number on the die is large enough to be able to see from across the table. The bomb and fuse cards are your standard cards and work fine for the game. The rule book explains everything with helpful illustrations and lets you record your scores on the back. Renegade has provided a timer app to count down the time. The app is better than just a regular timer because you can keep track of your scores on it. The timer app lets you know how much time you have left and will also taunt you from time to time. This brought back memories of playing the old board game Omega Virus. Nothing like knowing your probably going to fail and have the app tell you that you should have been a janitor cleaning the toilets.
Fuse is a cooperative game that has a player rolling dice equal to the number of players playing and each player taking dice to place on their bomb cards. Each player will have 2 bomb cards in front of them to defuse and 5 in the middle to select from when you defuse a bomb and need to select a new card. The number of cards in the deck are determined by the number of players and how difficult you want to make it. For example a 4 player game will have 19 bomb cards in a deck after you have given each player 2 cards. If you go for insane difficulty, you will have a deck of 28 cards. To win the game you must have cleared the middle of bomb cards. That means you win once that last card in the middle is put in front of one of the players. By the way, you have 10 minutes to defuse all of these bombs.
I did not think I would enjoy Fuse because all your doing is rolling dice and hoping you get a roll that matches what you need. I was very, very wrong. Fuse was a lot of fun and provided chaotic teamwork that kept us wanting to play more and more. The app clicking with each second and then occasionally providing a snide remark added to the intensity. Also no matter what, the game is over in 10 minutes. This is a game that will provide memories for your group of crazy situations and close calls. The game is simple enough that various age groups and skill levels can play with little instruction. I have yet to play and not have the group demand to play a second time at least. Having 5 different skill levels provides goals to strive for. This is a great game for groups that like to play games together rather than against each other. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a chaotic, loud, fun-filled, filler game. This will definitely be staying in my collection and look forward to pulling it out on some of my other friends.
